Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare for bark?

A: You may want to have a pre-emergant put down (weed killer), weed the beds and clean up the edges, if necessary, or you can have our company provide these services as well.

Q: Should I put plastic or weed fabric under the bark?

A: Three inches of bark gives you the same weed control without the additional effort. Plastic is never recommended as it prevents water from penetrating through the ground. It also traps air, causing moldy soil, and eventually deteriorates and falls apart. Weed fabric makes it difficult to do additional planting and still requires two inches of bark. Neither is suggested.

Q: How long does bark last?

A: Depending on the size and how much you initially put down, bark can last 2-3 years (based on a 3” application). The bottom layer will deteriorate first and become a soil amendment. In some cases, customers refresh yearly to regain the 1” rot down of the previous year and because they like the look and smell of fresh bark.

Q: Do I need to rake out the bark when you are done?

A: NO. Our finished job is far superior to what you could expect to do with a rake. We even blow under bushes and trees that you would never consider to do by hand.

Q: Does it make much of a mess?

A: We clean up any overspray before we leave. The only exception is when the building and/or sidewalks are wet from sprinklers or rain. We will do the best we can with our blowers though you may choose to wash some areas with a hose.

Q: Will blowing the bark hurt my plants?

A: No. We are careful not to blow directly onto the more delicate plants. We would prefer that your annuals are planted two weeks prior to installation, but in any case, we are always accommodating.

Q: How far will your hose reach?

A: Our blower unit carries 200ft hose.

Q: How much notice should I give you to get on the schedule?

A: One to two weeks notice is sufficient, with the exception of the high season (March thru July), when we might require more notice. We always try our best to accommodate for unexpected occasions.
